Earthworm Foundation is an international dynamic non-profit organization which helps companies transform their supply chains across the world for the benefit of people and nature.

Earthworm Foundation is seeking a motivated Project Officer, Altamira and Region in Para, Brazil - working remotely from home with the purpose of applying knowledge of technical assistance to family farming, social communication and popular education, project management and management of social and environmental impacts in promoting the sustainable transformation of the Cocoa Value Chain.

He/she must have experience in technical assistance to family farming, agricultural supply chains, excellent communication and writing skills, passionate about working cooperatively to create value and interested in an experience in a dynamic organization, that builds bridges and relationships between producers and companies, governments and civil society organizations.

The Project Officer will have a high degree of autonomy in his/her work and will seek to promote the transformation in the level of Cocoa production among small and medium-sized rural producers in the Transamazônica region, in Pará. The Project Officer works together with multiple actors for the production and commercialization of products free of deforestation and social exploitation.

The Project Officer will continually engage farming families, players in technical assistance to family farming, and propose, coordinate work plans and innovations that lead to increased performance in responsible, socially and environmentally responsible production.

The Project Officer will work as a team, in close collaboration with the Project Manager of the Earthworm Foundation in Brazil, to develop innovative projects in the reference territory.

Responsibilities

The professional will be co-responsible for:

  • Engage rural communities to participate in the management of their territories;
  • Engage rural producers in the cocoa chain in favor of the production, origination and trade of responsible products of known origin;
  • Conduct field visits and offer rural technical assistance (ATER) to producers and cooperatives;
  • Prepare technical opinions for ATER.
  • Operationalize the traceability of products with Earthworm's own methodology.
  • Motivate local associations, cooperatives and companies to participate in environmentally and socially responsible agriculture.
  • Support training program for family farming producers in Agroforestry systems, Property Management and Diversification, Food Safety, Home Economics and Small Businesses.
  • Propose and manage work plans and respective budgets throughout the year.
Requirements – Candidate Profile Minimum Qualifications
  • Previous knowledge of the Transamazônica region, in Pará, of the Cocoa production chain and agriculture in the territory;
  • Higher or technical training in one of the following areas: agronomy, administration, environmental management, information management, forestry engineering or equivalent;
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in the agribusiness sector, rural technical assistance, family farming;
  • Experience in engaging with different stakeholders;
  • Experience in project management;
  • Resident in Altamira or surrounding municipalities, in Pará;
  • Basic knowledge in managing geospatial information.

Language skills:

  • Portuguese. Desired Basic English.

Working conditions / Physical effort:

  • 70% of the work is done in the oil palm producing region in the state of Pará, interspersed with trips outside the reference territory and face-to-face meetings with customers, members, suppliers and team meetings.

Other information:

  • Availability and autonomy for field trips (Habilitation A and/or B).
  • Dedication of 40 hours per week in CLT format.
  • Resident in Altamira or surroundings, in Pará.
